Don't do it! Don't reach for that phone first thing in the morning. Research shows that when you begin your day by checking your email your productivity for the week, not day, plummets more than 30 %. Why? Because you're starting your first few waking minutes answering the priorities of other people.
I recently came across a quote that said, "It's easier to avoid distractions than to resist them." The point is discipline has its limits. And not only do I agree, but studies have shown it takes about 11 minutes to regain your focus each time you're interrupted.
The key is to create an environment that makes it really easy to focus on good habits and do the work that matters.
Whether you set your phone in another room and buy a cheap alarm clock, place the healthy foods within arms reach and the "cheat foods" on high shelves, or bury your social media apps in folder after folder, the war against distraction is real and one we can't afford to lose.
Reaching your greatest potential and sharing your unique voice with the world depend on it.
